Scratch marks were found inside the oven, indicating the puppy had been alive when it was placed inside, prosecutors said.

A necropsy on the 3-month-old dog found its paws and snout had been duct taped and it had been doused with paint before being placed in the oven, prosecutors said.

Authorities also found damaged computers, broken glass and splattered paint on the walls of the newly refurbished community center.

Link to Story

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://5secondrule.blogspot.com/2007/02/10-years-is-not-long-enough-teens.html' title='10 Years is Not Long Enough! It was set at 7 minutes to midnight, which represents the end of the world (through nuclear war). Over the years, the clock has moved closer too and further from midnight. As close as 11:58 in 1953, and as far as 11:43 in 1991. On January 17th, 2007, the clock moved from 11:53 to 11:55. However this new change is NOT due to nuclear war, it is due to the coming fashion apocalypse. The signs were all there! Look at the movement of the doomsday clock. The SAME year that Crocs were invented (maybe)! And now, with the coming of these toe gloves of doom, we again move closer to midnight.

There is still hope! We have been closer to destruction in the past. Then, international cooperation between world powers was able to pull us back from the brink of disaster. This time, it is up to ALL of us. Kill a Northern spotted owl and make a shoe out of it instead, it is better for the world as a whole...

Don't Speed in Italy!

I have to admit, I have driven over the speed limit once or twice. I have also gotten at least one speeding ticket (on the Gorge Road, going to class...be careful!). Personally, I would not ever try to run from the police. This is not only because I drive a Toyota Corolla, but also because I have watched enough Real TV and World's Wildest Police Chases to know how that sort of thing usually ends (Also, I don't think Jesus would approve). I could see, however, how it might be more tempting to run from the police if you were driving something that they couldn't catch.

If you are that type of person who would try to get away, Italian police have a squad car that would most likely make you reconsider.

I guess if you have roads with no speed limit, you need a Lamborghini to catch people.

I think that is pretty awesome. Apparently is is old news, but I don't care.

And even though this isn't a Lamborghini, I am more likely to see one. Normally, I would avoid this type of thing for a very simple reason...there isn't really anything about me that needs improving.

After thinking about resolutions earlier today, I began to think of making some sort of clever post about them. Instead, something very serious happened. I thought of a real resolution to make! I resolve to update this blog at least every other day.

Huge, I know. A police officer with a radar gun dressed up as an Elf. I love it.

From ABC News

"Dec. 9, 2006 — Police in Orange County, Fla., have created a special holiday season speed trap — an elf cop armed with a radar gun and a citation pad.

The elf, Deputy Officer Richard Lockman Jr. of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, holds a sign that says, "Help an Elf; Slow Down," while aiming a radar gun at oncoming traffic.

The idea came to the department just by looking at Lockman, Ken Wynne, commander of the sheriff's department, told "Good Morning America Weekend Edition."

"We always try to do things creative[ly] to make a difference, to slow people down, especially during the holidays," Wynne said. "One day, we were sitting around we looked at Deputy Lockman and said, 'Let's put him in an elf suit.'"

Lockman, a 32-year veteran of the force, said he didn't mind.

"Seeing as I'm the shortest one in the unit, I don't mind having a little fun," he said. "Why not?"

The idea has been very successful, Lockman said. One day, the department handed out 180 tickets and made three arrests.

Wynne said he's not worried about accusations of entrapment.

"Entrapment means that you're making them do something they wouldn't normally do," he said. "This laser gun will get you before you see the elf."

Even Santa, who would have to travel around 650 miles per second to cover the entire world in one night, wouldn't get a pass from Wynne.

"If he's on our roadways, we will [pull him over]," he said. "But if I know Santa, he's above us, and we'll never see him."

Here is the video.

Sorry it has a commercial...Merry Christmas

ABU Christmas Banquet

Well, CWJ (www.rejectthenull.com) and I are the hosts for the ABU Christmas Banquet. They are turning up all over Ebay for inflated prices. But I am pretty impressed by THIS auction. And by impressed I mean...well...not impressed at all.

Opening bid is $25,000 US, or buy it now for the bargain price of $500,000. He claims it is for the Red Cross (well, 75% of it is). Yet, I do not understand the comments he has received:

"I'm very proud that 90% [sic] goes to red cross. someone else is selling PS3 for $1,000,000.00 and only 10% goes to March of Dimes thats just sad."

"I read a previous statement from a woman saying her son wanted to put his ps3 up for auction because he was moved by your compassion."

"YOU HAVE MADE ME PROUD. MY 10YEAR OLD SON HAS ONE AND WANTED TO SELL IT BUT WE SAW YOUR DEAL AND HE DECIDED TO DONATE 75% OF HIS TO SALVATION ARMY HEADQUARTERS THROUGH EBAY VIA MISSIONFISH I HOPE YOU SELL THIS !!! PEACE"

"good luck on the sell, your doing a good thing."

etc.

Soooo, I guess he is pretty generous. I mean, if he sells it for $25,000 and gives 75% to charity, that only leaves him with what, ~$6000? So a profit of $5500 for the guy. Pretty generous...

I obviously think that it is good for someone to donate money to charity, but if you REALLY wanted to help the Red Cross (and not just make a profit) wouldn't you just keep the original $500 you spent?

How are people so stupid? How is the world in such a state that someone who is willing to profit $5500 is praised as a hero and example for 10 year olds everywhere?

Side note: Should people who type in caps lock be ALLOWED to have children? I don't really think so...maybe that should be my next post.

Anyway...if you have $25,000 to donate to red cross, maybe you should just send it to them yourself. Then at least you could get a receipt for a tax write-off. Because, sketchily enough, you cannot with this auction. I wonder if that means that he gets it? Generous indeed!

PS, The new Firefox underlines spelling mistakes while you type. Apparently sketchily is a real word. That is nice to know

Comfort vs. Fashion

I have never really tried THAT hard to be in style. I never owned a chain wallet when it was cool, I haven't gone through the Ashton Kutcher trucker hat stage...I DID own a snap bracelet though. So, I guess that I peaked at around 1991 when it was cool to wear them with those fake baby soothers around your neck.

In spite of this, I can respect most styles. And I respect the lengths of discomfort that some people are willing to go to. Women who wear stilletos, they have heart. And those skateboarding kids who have now decided to wear dangerously tight pants...I respect them less, but that's beside the point.

The point is, that it seems that throughout history, comfort and fashion have been in opposition. While some think that religion vs. science has been a major conflict, they are wrong. If you want to see something major, the opposition of evolution to creation is nothing compared to this:

vs. Comfort.

Until now, I thought that the two would eventually reach some sort of mutual agreement. In fact, I thought we were almost there. Men and women could wear jeans, sneakers were acceptable...times were good. And THEN

FASHION DISASTER@@!!!!11one

What are we thinking? How is this acceptable in our society? I have heard that they are very comfortable...that may be true. But, I will NOT give in. I can understand children wearing them I suppose...MAYBE people could wear them to the beach, or in a public shower. But that is not what is happening. They are EVERYWHERE!

Without any fashion sense whatsoever, society as we know it will break down. Soon it really WILL be socially acceptable to drape yourself in velvet. Worrying about what other people think is the only thing that keeps some people wearing pants, and the rest of us really really really want them to wear pants.

I counted these at the mall the other day, I saw over 40 people wearing them. Not kids, but adults. What is next? Will it be acceptable to wear them at work, with a suit?

The Professional:
closed top protects the foot and ribbed ventilation ports channel fluids away. looks good at the office, on a boat or peeking out from the bottom of your scrubs.
(Official Description)

Please, resist this...I BEG of you!
